Happy Mother’s Day – Family Photos from the Past…

/></a><img class=

Happy Mother’s Day to all those fantastic and fabulous Mom’s and Mother figures out there!!! Today I decided to share some family photos (no I did not take them, but someone in my family did) that are dedicated to the three women in my life that were the most influential!

My Mother, pictured above with myself and my Grandmother, helped teach me all about being observant, doing a job well done, and how to be accountable. She worked hard, went to nursing school, obtained her RN, was in the Army Reserve – even saved a guys life – then went Active Duty Air Force as an Operating Room Nurse – she was like super Mom… How she did it all I don’t know to this day, but she managed it all. And if it wasn’t for her, I would have never seen the world as I have, or met my husband (we met while my Mom was stationed in England – we were both in High School at the time). I’ve become a more patient and understanding person because of her. I love you Mom – thank you!

My Aunt Maryann, pictured below with my Grandmother has been there for me as long as I can remember. She helped raise me as well, and taught me that it is okay to be myself and have some fun in life, while still being responsible of course! She is such an amazing woman, full of life, so much fun to hang out with, helps guide me when I need it, she always has a way about her that is calming and relaxed and confident and I often wish I possessed such a level head and phenomenal business sense. She excels in everything she sets her mind to, is the glue that kept my family together through the horribly trying time my Grandmother was passing from us this winter… She is a shining light in our family and I’m ever grateful to call her my Aunt, but she has been so much more to me my entire life! I love you more! She get’s it, lol!

/></a><a rel=

And most of all – my Grandmother, who not only helped raise me, but shape most of who I am today… She taught me about love, strength, integrity, determination… everything… She was the center of our family – I will never forget our traveling adventures together, picking raspberries from the garden and cherries off of the tree to make homemade pies and jelly… I think she is the reason I’m such a foodie – and she had a zest for life that I think I too posses. She insisted on having her own camera because she wanted to take pictures too (my Grandfather and Aunt always had their cameras, and she had to join in as well).

I remember helping with laundry by catching the clothes behind the ringer to then take them out to the line to hang dry (yes, I’m showing my age here)… She would read me bedtime stories, wake me up to see the first snow of the winter and make soup to keep me warm, scold my Aunt and I for eating green apples with salt from the orchard because we’d get upset stomachs from it, she bought me my first Barbie Doll… I could tell her anything – and she believed in me unconditionally…

She adored my husband and would light up whenever he was around. Loosing her this year was one of the hardest things I’ve ever endured in my lifetime – but she will live on through us all – through our memories. What she instilled in me I hope to pass on someday, and she’ll be remembered through all of the photographs we took throughout the years. I love you with all my heart Grandma, now and forever…

Happy mothers day to all…

Nakia + Mark Married!

/></a></p> <p><a rel=

They met, they dated, they had many years apart, on different paths… But fate brought them back together – because you see – the heart never lets go of those we truly love. Nakia and Mark have a love that brought them back together after the years apart, and they are stronger than ever because they know, they have found their strength in one another… After great anticipation since I first met Nakia in January, the wedding day finally arrived and it was a grand a glorious event! The day began with coffee and gathering everyone together at the Crowne Plaza. As the girls did hair and makeup, the guys gathered to reminisce and have some crown and coke. The flowers and decor were being designed downstairs by Lara of Lara’s Theme. Beautiful orchids, brightly lit paper lanterns, and delicate cherry blossom fans cascaded across the tables.

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=Yvonne Decosta did a spectacular job with Nakia’s makeup and she let me play with her MAC makeup for some shots too! Thanks Yvonne!

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a></p>

Meanwhile the girls decided to have some fun of their own, had a some shots, and then got down to business as Nakia got her gown on. Surrounded by family and friends, she was positively glowing! After her mother helped her with her veil she gathered her jewelry to put on. Nakia and her father had some time a part prior to her engagement, and  fate played a role in bring them back together as well. He has a family  tradition that for every major milestone a female member in the family  has, she is given a gold bangle. As they had much catching up to do, he  presented her with three prior to the wedding. They were passed down  through the generations, and with each of her daughters she gained one,  and now with her wedding, another… She told me how much this had meant  to her and it brought tears to my eyes, as she brought them out to wear  with her wedding dress. Those are the personal details I love the  most… I also love first looks…

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=

It isn’t every bride that decides to do a first look, but it really allows the Bride and Groom to savor in the moments they first get to see one another – the reactions are savored, not quickly swept aside to get on with the ceremony… It is a precious moment, a memory, most brides don’t get to share with their groom because they fear it is bad luck – but there is nothing unlucky about it – and it is becoming more and more common as modern brides realize that they want to actually see the look on their husband to be’s face when he first sees her. Not to mention it allows for  more time to capture some great photographs!

Mark had the best smile of anticipation as Nakia came up behind him and you could tell she was just beaming, and despite the fact that she said she wasn’t nervous at all, she trembled just a little in her own anticipation, but with the biggest smile on her face she walked up to Mark… Royalty for the day, he turned to see his queen for the first time that day. Mark had the sweetest expression of endearment. He knew he was marrying the love of his life, and he knew she was stunning, but when he laid eyes on her this day, I think she truly took his breath away – that is a moment they will never forget.

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=

I just adore these photographs of Nakia and her Grandfather! It was the sweetest thing when she kissed him on the cheek and the expression on his face! Oh, my how priceless! It touched my heart even more because I got to see the look on his face as well when he saw her in her dress for the first time – he was so obviously proud and has so much love for Nakia!

 /></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=

As Nakia walked down the isle with her father and grandfather, you could tell emotions were high. Love, joy, and happiness abound. They took part in a sand ceremony, were pronounced husband and wife, and shared their first kiss as husband and wife! It was then time to party! And what a party it was! They had a fantastic DJ, Michael Cooke, that kept the guests well entertained all night long! And yes. I cried when Nakia danced with her father, laughed when they broke out the handcuffs and blindfold for the garter toss, and said my awwwww’s when they fed each other cake…. I always do… :~)

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel= /></a><a rel=

Her Mom teared up as Nakia walked down the isle, it was so emotional and sweet. It is that moment Mom’s realize their baby is all grown up, happy, and in love… One day, it will be Nakia shedding those tears of joy for her two beautiful girls!

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=

The String duo that Nakia had for her ceremony. They did a fantastic job – very moving music and highly professional team headed up by Michael Wiseman!

/></a><a rel=

Nakia and her Aunt who helped raise her as a little girl! They obviously have a great bond with one another!

 /></a><a rel=

This dress is to die for! Thanks to the team at Aurora Bridal – they outfitted Nakia to be Royalty! Seriously, I couldn’t get enough of this gown and the veil just topped it all off so perfectly!

/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=/></a><a rel=

The cake was delish! I rarely have time to eat at the reception, as I’m often so busy, but the one thing I usually manage to get is a piece of wedding cake! Sandra’s Cakes did such a phenomenal job, and it was one of the tastiest cakes I’ve had in a long time! Check out her work here.

/></a><a rel=

Reception fun!/></a><a rel=

So here is to Nakia and Mark! May you have many more days filled with love, laughter, and gold bangles….

Friday’s Fabulous Finds – Here is to a new weekly post!

So I’m thinking that I need a weekly post about something fun and fabulous – so why not make that day Friday and that something will be anything from new stores, items I like, things I think are cute and all around wonderful! It may not all be wedding related, but it is going to be fabulous! Here is to new ideas, fun finds, and things that I can’t help but *drool* over. Enjoy!

/></a></p> <p> <a href=

1. Chalkboard paint! Why? Because you can do soooo many cool things with it! My favorite ideas: mugs for an engagement session – you can write whatever you like and the couple can hold them for a cozy winter session! Wine glasses can have 1/2 the base painted to put guests names, great for a favor, name cards, all in one! Paint some on apothecary jars for a candy bar so guests know what everything is! Make signs to point guests in the right direction, just paint on balsa wood – go to a craft store to get them in shapes. You can even paint paper and make custom tags… Better yet – make your own in any color you want! That’s right, you can make chalkboard paint in your wedding colors!!! Click here to learn how.

2. Fun colored shoes! Just because you are wearing white doesn’t mean that you can’t have some fun with your shoes. If you know me by now – you know that I LOVE shoes! They can be your something blue – they can be your favorite color – the color of your brides maids dress – have FUN with it! No one wants to wear white shoes at their wedding anymore, so let your personality shine!

3. Paper bunting… you know, the little flags you can string up at the base of the candy buffet table – through trees – well, just about anywhere could give a great spring feel! And they are super easy for DIYer’s too. Grab some fun scrapbooking paper at your local craft store and have at… Check out a how to here!

4. Painted watercolor vases. Just use old jars or vases, mix water and paint in bucket, put masking tape around top of vase to point you don’t want to be painted and dip and swirl! Reminds me of coloring Easter eggs! How pretty!

5. I’m sorry, these just make me smile. Get creative with tags stuck in gumdrops for a base! I can think of a thousand little fun uses for these at a wedding!

6. I have a place in my heart for fabric flowers… And although you’ll usually see me wearing them in my hair – I just adore these guys for just about anything you’d like on a wedding day… Decor, favors, fashion, fun!!! They are handmade and affordable… Get them here!

(Thank you to http://asubtlerevelry.com/ for some great inspirational ideas as well)
